Federal money needed for more expansion at Lewiston-Queenston

The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission has been pushing for major improvements at the U.S. end of the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge for years. Now, Washington is starting to clear the way for a $64 million rebuild and expansion.

Delays in the busy season have hit three hours, deterring Canadian travelers and shoppers. GM Lew Holloway says there are big plans.

"This is to put in a new administration secondary processing building and to put in new lanes, replace all the old ones plus put in additional new lanes so that we have increased processing for automobiles, increased processing for trucks and a new bus processing lane,' Holloway explained.

That's about half of what the bridge commission wants to do, eventually. Holloway says if everything gets done quickly and Senator Charles Schumer and Congressman Chris Collins can pry the money out of the budget, the work might be done by around the Christmas shopping season in 2018.
