Council President Darius Pridgen is promising a crackdown on bouncers at Buffalo bars.
Saying it's time to enforce a registration ordinance, Pridgen says the Council will loan Inspections and Licenses the machine to make the required $35 licenses. The department had planned on buying the machine.
Pridgen says a big problem with a lack of enforcement has been the refusal of bouncers to wear name tags, so they can be identified. He related an incident in which "a young lady was handcuffed to a fence."
Pridgen says the bouncer offered no identification.
"She asked for the name and was not given a name of a person and he eventually let her go. If someone is being unruly in an establishment, you either kick him out or you call the police."
Pridgen says the number of complaints about bouncers seems to be rising, with certain bars topping the list of problems. He won't name them right now but says they will be named in the push to enforce bouncer rules.
