Absentee ballots may decide winner of Niagara Falls mayoral race

Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster has a slightly more than 70 vote lead over his opponent in the democratic primary for mayor with the absentee ballots yet to be counted. Despite the close race, WBFO's Mike Desmond reports Dyster is already looking toward the November general election.

Unofficial returns say the mayor has pulled out a tight win over Councilman Glenn Choolokian and will probably face former councilmember and former mayoral candidate John Accardo in November. Both races are close.

"When you're a two-term incumbent, that's probably the case, that the election becomes what it is that you have accomplished in your time in office and what you are likely to accomplish if you get re-elected to another term," Dyster said after polls closed.

"In some ways, it gets harder as you go along and I'm very gratified that the voters of the Democratic party have decided they want me to carry the banner for them again in November."

Dyster says this was a hard-fought race and he plans to work just as hard between now and November to sell the voters that the Cataract City is getting better and will continue to improve with him at the helm.
