Buffalo police officer faces second civil rights charge

A Buffalo Police officer charged with civil rights violations is now facing even more charges.

Corey Krug, 40,  has been indicted by a federal grand jury on another charge of deprivation of rights under color of law and filing a false report. The charges date back to an August, 2010, incident in which he allegedly used unreasonable and excessive force against an individual identified only as M-W. Krug filed a use of force report but failed to disclose that he struck the victim during the incident with an impact weapon, causing bodily injury. The indictment marks the second such civil rights charge against Krug.

The first came as a criminal complaint resulting from a Thanksgiving Day incident last year in which Krug was videotaped by a WKBW-TV Cameraman pushing an individual to the ground on Chippewa Street and repeatedly striking his legs with a night stick, causing pain, swelling and bruising. The individual is identified only as D-F.

Krug will make an initial appearance on the complaint and be arraigned on the charge included in the indictment in court today at 2pm.

The new charge carries a maximum penalty of 10-years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

The federal indictment is the result of an investigation by the FBI and the Buffalo Police Department.
