New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that a number of state firefighters will be dispatched to fight the wild fires on the West Coast. A total of 20 employees and volunteers from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will be active in battling blazes in California, Washington and Oregon for about two weeks. It is reported that the US Forest Service will be covering the costs for these crews.
Providing assistance in the fight against these fires has become an annual effort by the state since 1979.
