The international ride sharing company Uber has won a legal judgement in Toronto. City lawyers were arguing that Uber is a taxi company, and therefore, it was liable to abide by city regulations governing that industry. Uber maintained that it is a communications company that simply acts as service linking passengers and potential drivers.
An Ontario judge agreed with Uber, stating that the company is not acting as a taxi brokerage.
