Buffalo Opportunity Pledge opens logo design contest to public

City of Buffalo

Mayor Byron Brown was joined by IBM and Lamar Advertising to launch the Buffalo Opportunity Pledge Logo Contest on Thursday. The pledge is designed to encourage businesses, organizations and residents to embrace diversity and equality, while the announced contest seeks ideas from residents, artists and students.  Brown says they are looking for a logo that reflects the City’s goal of embracing the community.

“We really want to brand something that speaks to the values of this community, that speaks to the work that we are all collectively doing to build a Buffalo, and that provides opportunity for all residents,” said Brown.

Jay Goodwyn, Executive Director of the IBM Buffalo Innovation Center, said embracing the pledge plays an integral role in success.

“We enthusiastically support the Mayor’s opportunity pledge. We live by the values of diversity and inclusion every day at IBM. Diversity is a core belief for us, and a key ingredient that we believe enables us to be successful,” Goodwyn said.

Brown, who announced the pledge in February, said it “encourages business, organizations and residents to commit to building a culture of inclusion and equality in the City of Buffalo.”

The contest is open to all age groups, and the winning entry will be featured on billboards citywide, the city government website, and social media sites.

All entries must be submitted by midnight on July 6 and can be emailed to opportunitylogo@city-buffalo.com. More information is available at Buffalo's Opportunity Pledge website.
