More folks are visiting Niagara Falls and other parts of Niagara County.The Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation is out with its annual report indicating 6.6 million people from across the U.S. visited the region in 2014. That's 100,000 more domestic visitors than the previous year.
WBFO's Jay Moran spoke with NTCC President and CEO John Percy Wednesday on Morning Edition.
NTCC President and CEO John Percy tells WBFO that tourism is now the county's number two industry, noting overnight visitors left behind $561 million. Meanwhile, Day visitors spent another $266 million during their one-day trips to the region.
Percy attributes "very strategic and targeted approaches" with advertising and digital marketing for the increase in visitors.
"Nine new hotels are either opened or under construction or planned to be open in the next three years and other projects are planned," notes Percy.
"So I think this is all leading to help that resurgence in Niagara Falls and in Niagara County, just like we're seeing throughout the entire region, in Buffalo as well."
Percy says they are still gathering data on international visitors and expects the number of visitors overall in 2014 to rise to about 8 million. He adds year-to-date data for 2015 indicates they're on track for another increase in visitors this year.
