Just three months ago, the region was enveloped in sub-zero temperatures. But in recent days, summer-like warmth has arrived. And that has many people spending as much time as possible at a number of outdoor festivals this weekend.
Porches in the Elmwood Village neighborhood are rocking Saturday. Porchfest returns, starting at 1:00pm. More than 55 local bands will perform on the porches of homes in the Elmwood Village -- all for free.
Saturday also marked the start of the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market. This is its 17th season. Hours each Saturday now through November 28th are 8:00am to 1:00pm, rain or shine. The market has 40 vendors selling fruits, vegetables, baked goods and much more. Local entertainers will also be performing.
The second annual Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival wraps up its week-long run Saturday. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom at the Japanese Gardens outside the Buffalo History Museum. The festival has live music from 12noon to 4pm Saturday and concludes with a May Pole Dance and Pink Parade.
Friday's reading of 88 degrees at the airport weather station broke the previous high temperature record of 85 that was set on May 8th, 1979.
It's possible another record could be set Saturday as temperatures once again soar into the upper 80s. But showers and thunderstorms are forecast this afternoon as well as for Mother's Day tomorrow.
By Wednesday, high temperatures will drop to the mid 50s.
