Lights, camera, action: Road closure begins tonight for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 shoot

Shooting gets underway in Buffalo Monday night for the film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2."

Buffalo Niagara Film Commisioner Tim Clark notes the Kennsington Expressway (33) will be closed from the Elm/Oak Arterial downtown to the Scajaquada Expressway (198) from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. for the next two weeks while crews film several car chases.

"It's a very stunt drive sequence," says Clark. "There's a lot of safety concerns. Fire trucks and police officers and just general city services have to be utilized for this kind of thing. Paramount is reimbursing us so it's really a pretty good win-win situation for the city."

Clark says more than 200 people have been brought in by Paramount Pictures for the film shoot. They've booked 2,200 room nights at local hotels and about 150 local vendors have been hired to provide everything from catering to windshield repairs needed because of stunt work.

The 33 closure begins tonight and runs nightly until May 16, with the exception of Mother's Day, May 10.
