North Tonawanda grocery store owner leaves business to employees

A North Tonawanda family-owned grocery store is changing hands - of sorts.

Budwey's Market Owner Frank Budwey is giving 33 full-time employees a portion of the business.

"I've decide to keep the Budwey Supermarket going, I am giving 45% of the store to the employees," says Budwey. "Then upon my death, the remainder will go to the employees."

The announcement didn't surprise Meat Supervisor Jerry Dumais, who says that's the kind of guy Frank is. Dumais has been working there for nearly 30 years. He says the store is in good hands.

"Its got to be a team effort," says Dumais. "We all got to stick together. We got the employees. We got the experience and we got the workers to do it. We just got to put it all together as one. There's no 'I' in Budwey's."

Budwey says he's going to spend a million dollars over the new few months to make improvements at the store. He adds the secret to his success is loyalty.

"North Tonawanda has been great to my family. We're into our 90th year now. I hope I live another ten years."
