More than 1,000 volunteers will be out in force Saturday morning for the Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper's annual "Spring Shoreline Sweep."
Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper Marketing and Development Manager Susan Kornacki says volunteers will spread across the region from Niagara Falls to South Buffalo. She says in past years, they've found everything from part of a motorcycle and tires to standard trash. Kornacki says the clean up is often an eye opener for first time volunteers about how discarded trash impacts the environment.
Kornacki says volunteers are still needed at Riverbend near the new Solar City complex, Scajaquada Creek, and in Niagara Falls at Gill Creek Park and LaSalle Waterfront Park. You can sign up to volunteer by visiting bnriverkeeper.org/cleanup/.
This year marks Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper's 25th anniversary.
