The Buffalo Fire Department's Haz-Mat team was called to The Buffalo News building Monday afternoon after an envelope with white powder inside was delivered to the newspaper's offices. A lockdown was enacted as a precaution. Special Operations Chief Peter Kertzie says equipment was used to determine the material was not radiological or off-gasing.
"Our Haz-Mat team brought the package out, secured it in a container, and then we handed it off to the FBI. Most of what we're doing here is precautionary, but we don't want to take any chances," Kertzie said
News employees remained in the building throughout the process. An "all clear" was declared mid-afternoon. No one was injured.
