An early morning accident on Saturday has taken the life of a local soldier. Army National Guard Specialist Brenden DeCarlo was traveling north on Route 16 in the Town of Yorkshire when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming ambulance. The 21-year-old DeCarlo was transported to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the ambulance was treated at the hospital and released.
DeCarlo was an Olean resident.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
