City imposes e-cigarette restrictions

"Vaping" is now banned in the same places tobacco smoking is banned in the City of Buffalo. The new law, passed by the Common Council on Tuesday, was quickly signed by Mayor Byron Brown. University District Councilman Rasheed Wyatt says he fully supports the law because there are still a lot of unknowns regarding e-cigarettes and their effects on individuals. Wyatt says the new regulation mirrors the traditional "no-smoking" law.

"I thought it was very appropriate because of the unknowns that we're still researching and investigating. Until that is ironed out, I think it's the right move to protect individuals and patrons, especially young people," said Wyatt.

The law also makes it illegal to cell e-cigarettes to minors in Buffalo. Similar bans are being considered by Erie County and New York State.
