East Coast storm affecting local air and bus travel

Numerous flights were canceled at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport Monday because of the major winter storm hitting the East Coast. Most -- if not all -- flights to and from New York City, Newark, NJ and Boston were grounded.

Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority spokesman Doug Hartmayer says travelers should check with their air carriers before heading to the airport.  He also says the Buffalo airport website has the latest flight information.

"We have relevant information about arrivals and departures," Hartmayer said.  "If you can get through to your airline, find out what their plans are."

The East Coast storm is also affecting inter-city bus service.  All Greyhound trips from the downtown Buffalo transportation center to New York City are canceled through Wednesday at noon.

"We will continue to monitor the National Weather Service," said Lanesha Gipson, a Greyhound spokesperson.  "We will work with authorities to determine when and where it's safe to travel.  If it's safe to travel before Wednesday at noon, then we'll resume service at that time."
