Medaille president leaving post

Citing unspecified health reasons, Medaille College President Richard Jurasek says he's retiring at the end of the academic year.

The 67-year-old president will have been at the Agassiz Circle school for eight-years. In announcing his retirement decision, the college cited fund-raising success in the first-ever comprehensive campaign and also $10 million in a variety of construction projects which made Medaille a better place to attend school. The statement also cited increasing success in on-line degree programs, reflecting workforce needs and changing lifestyles.

There was no mention of the fiscal problems in graduate programs which led to closing the school's Amherst campus and cutting faculty and staff. At the time Jurasek said undergraduate enrollment was holding steady when the age group of usual college students locally was continuing to shrink.
