Stadium allows for more handicapped accessible parking

Mike Desmond/wbfo news

Among the many changes to Ralph Wilson Stadium are two new parking lots for the disabled.

Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard was in one of those parking lots yesterday, reminding drivers that blue  handicapped parking tags exist for a reason. Deputies, he says, will be enforcing the law on game days.  Every year, deputies catch people trying to take a parking space with the use of an outdated tag or, in some cases, counterfeit tags.

"Think about some person or some act that's so despicable it would identify the perpetrator of that act to be an evil or a jerk," Howard said.

"A person that would kick a dog, a person that would take candy from a baby. I want to add to that list a person that would inappropriately park in a handicapped spot."

The new lots are very visible with every parking spot freshly painted and identified. Nearby turnstiles are  deliberately wide enough to allow for a wheelchair. The Bills say there have been handicapped seat areas added in more areas of the stadium.
