Second sibling child dies from pool accident

A swimming pool accident at a home in Lancaster last Friday has claimed the life of a second young child. A 4-year-old boy died overnight at Women and Children's Hospital, just days after his 3-year-old sister lost her life. The children were discovered in an above-ground backyard pool on Rose Street Friday evening. They were rushed to St. Joseph Hospital in Cheektowaga, where the girl was pronounced dead. The boy was then transferred to Women and Children's Hospital in Buffalo, where he died days later.

The circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths are under investigation. An autopsy on the boy was scheduled for Wednesday. The names of the children have not been released.

The incident happened just a day after a 1-year-old Village of Akron girl drowned in a small kiddie pool. The Erie County Sheriff's Office issued a statement Wednesday, saying the toddler's death has been ruled accident and no charges will be filed.
