Before last week's announcement that it was being purchased by SolarCity, Silevo had planned on setting up a manufacturing facility at the former site of Republic Steel in South Buffalo. In this week's Press Pass, Jim Fink of Business First shares some thoughts on the promise that the SolarCity takeover will bring even more jobs to Buffalo.
Local economic officials were optimistic following last week's announcement. Some proclaimed that the SolarCity takeover could mean more than 1,000 new jobs for the area.
"More often than not, the numbers can be ambitious," warned Jim Fink of Business First during WBFO's Press Pass.
Though it may be some time before shovels go in the ground at SolarCity's proposed manufacturing site, Fink remains hopeful.
"The one thing about this deal you're going from a start-up company (Silevo). Now you've got Solar City, a $6 billion a year, publicly-traded company," Fink said.
"There's more roots, more teeth behind this project than there was a month ago. That's pretty significant."
