A recent audit has raised questions about unfinished business with the Department of Labor. State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli has found that Labor Department investigations into wage theft are being left incomplete and the number of those cases is growing rapidly. The department had 7,000 open cases in 2008. As of August of last year, that number had increased to more than 17,000.
The reasons for the open investigations and the uncollected payments were not disclosed.
The audit was released on Friday.
