Camp Good Days seeking donations to offset costly flood damage

campgooddays.org

Camp Good Days and Special Times, a Finger Lakes camp that serves more than 1,500 children with cancer annually, is in the midst of cleanup and recovery after heavy flooding earlier this month damaged the facility.Regional Director Lisa Booz says the flooding left tons of rocks, logs and mud throughout the  Keuka Lake camp and one cabin had to demolished. Damage is estimated at $300,000.

Booz says donations to help defray the costs are welcomed.

"We did not have flood insurance," Booz says. "[Because of] the high expense of flood insurance, we didn't have it because of that. We did have our insurance come in to look at the facility and 80+ percent of the damages wouldn't have been covered anyway."

Booz says the flooding wasn't from Keuka Lake, but rather from a nearby creek that runs adjacent to the property. She says the creek changed direction and ran directly down the middle of the camp.

Some early season camp sessions had to be canceled, but camp officials hope to be up and running as soon as possible. Many of the children who attend the camp come there from Western New York.

A relief fund can be found at campdooddays.org.
