The Buffalo Police Department received a dozen new patrol vehicles Wedneday. The Chevy Tahoes are the first of 49 total cruisers expected to be on the road by mid-May.

As the new vehicles arrive they will replace the oldest of the city’s aging patrol cars. The new design follows the nationwide trend of going back to the traditional black and white color design for local law enforcement.

“Public Safety continues to be a top priority in Buffalo, and these newly designed black and white Police vehicles are just another way we are improving the safety of our neighborhoods through increased visibility,” said Mayor Byron Brown.

Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda says there is currently no plan to change all of the existing fleet to black and white.

“I believe that with these new state-of-the-art vehicles we will see an increase in public safety,” said Derenda.
