Standoff suspect: 'I made a big mistake'

The gunman who allegedly fired dozens of rounds at police Sunday night in the Town of Concord says he was drinking moonshine at the time.Upon arraignment in town court Tuesday morning, Mathew Eck apologized and said he "made a big mistake." Eck said he had blacked out from the drinking.

Eck, 48, is facing two counts attempted murder in the first degree. He waived his right to a felony hearing and is being held without bail.

It all began Sunday night when officers responded to a domestic incident on Brown Hill Road. Upon arrival, Eck allegedly opened fire, taking out the tires on one patrol car and shattering the windshield on another.

After holding police at bay for more than 12 hours, Eck walked out of his home on Brown Hill Road and peacefully surrendered Monday morning.
