Winter weather could be making its first significant appearance across Western New York this weekend. A lake effect snow advisory has been issued for Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Wyoming Counties, beginning at noon today and lasting until 7 o'clock on Sunday evening. Most areas are expected to see between 1 to 4 inches of snow, but persistent snow areas could experience as much as 8 inches. Portions of Chautauqua County could find themselves digging out of as much as 13 inches of new snow.

Gusting winds could make driving difficult with periods of blowing and drifting snow.
