The City of Buffalo's recommended 2014 capital budget, unveiled Friday by Mayor Byron Brown, spends nearly $23 million on everything from parks to polar bears. The mayor's spending plan includes $22.9 million for infrastructure improvements, demolitions, and funding for city landmarks. Much of the money, $9.2 million, is set aside for citywide infrastructure reconstruction and building demolitions.
There is $1.28 million for city parks, $500,000 for Coca Cola Field, $535,000 for improving Kenmore Avenue, and $650,000 for the Buffalo's Zoo Arctic Edge polar bear exhibit.
The spending plan also includes money for city libraries, municipal buildings, police vehicles, street lighting and tree planting/removal, among other items.
More than $3 million dollars are set aside for building demolitions.
The budget now goes to the Common Council, which must adopt a plan by December 15.
