Traffic change aims to ease congestion exiting The Ralph

buffalobills.com

New traffic rules affecting the egress process for leaving the stadium will go into effect Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

A portion of Big Tree Road, Route 20A, will be closed to westbound traffic, opening up two eastbound lanes for traffic for the mass fan exit.

Bills Vice President of Event Operations and Guest Experience Andy Major says the team listened to fan feedback and conducted an extensive traffic study.

"Fans have let us know that they've been sitting in traffic for a long time, especially in this area. We've kind of known why -- there's limited access to get out," Major told WBFO News.

The closure will begin around 3:30 p.m. at the start of the game's fourth quarter and will re-open as traffic clears out around 5:30 p.m. Major says it should significantly cut down the wait time for fans exiting the stadium.

"We've been told it could save between 40 and 50 percent of someone's egress time, so that is substantial. And if it does work to be that high, that would be tremendous," Major says.

The new rule will be tested for the first time for Sunday's 1 p.m. game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
