A group of local residents pushing for an "internationally significant" park on Buffalo's waterfront have released a conceptual drawing of their plan.
Chairperson of the 21st Century Park on the Outer Harbor Joanne Kahn says the rendering is meant to further dialogue about the public's future use of the land.
"We see it as being able to create a wonderful, regional, exciting, recreational attraction for Buffalo and Western New York," Kahn says.
The park would be located on 130 acres along Fuhrmann Boulevard currently owned by the NFTA. The Transit Authority is in the process of turning over the vacant property to the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation.
Kahn says the goal of releasing the image is to allow the public to begin to visualize an alternate future for the land.
"Cities like Baltimore and Pittsburgh, by revitalizing their waterfronts, have reinvigorated their cities, and we think we should be doing the same," Kahn says.
Governor Andrew Cuomo says the community will ultimately decide how the land is reused.
