The cause of the power outage that affected more than 45,000 National Grid customers on Saturday remains under investigation. A spokesperson for the utility claims that an equipment failure at a large transmission substation led to the blackout, but the exact cause of the problem remains to be determined. The outage struck the city hard, but areas of Amherst and Cheektowaga were also affected.
Buffalo's CodeRED system kicked in to alert residents of the problem by phone.
All power was restored by 10:00 on Saturday morning.
