The University at Buffalo student found dead in his apartment on Sunday was a graduate of the Greece Central School District, near Rochester. The District today confirmed the name of Nicholas Arieno, who graduated from Greece Athena High School in June, as the deceased.
Arieno, 18, was found by friends in a Winspear Avenue apartment around 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Authorities believe he had been dead for several hours.
Results of an autopsy conducted yesterday were inconclusive as to how the young man died. Buffalo Police say they do not suspect foul play.
Greece Athena Principal Jason Gianotti issued the following statement Tuesday:
"Athena students were notified of Nick's death today and the school had a moment of silence in his memory this morning. Extra counselors are on site today. Nick was a wonderful student who was actively involved. Most notably, he and another student started a business through the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) last year that won honors.
As a school community we are taking time to grieve and remember Nick. He was a wonderful student and a very active member of our school community."
