It appears likely the U.S. will use force in response to alleged chemical weapons attacks by the regime of Syria's Bashar Assad. But the White House does not have the support of at least one member of the Western New York congressional delegation.
Rep. Brian Higgins says he thinks Americans are sick and tired of war.
"I think the use of chemical weapons is inexcusable, but we have to nation build here at home," Higgins said Tuesday.
Higgins points out Syria is a civil war. He says there are no good guys or bad guys in the Syrian conflict.
"Unfortunately countries that can't resolve their differences civilly go through wars. They're going to have figure this out themselves. There are no good options for the United States. Every dollar that we spend in Afghanistan...in Iraq...[and] in Syria is a dollar that's not spent rebuilding the roads and bridges of this country," said Higgins.
Higgins says if Washington can be helpful in a global response to the atrocities in Syria, he would support it on a limited basis. But he says under no circumstances should the U.S. have troops on the ground in Syria, or anywhere else.
Rep. Chris Collins was traveling and unavailable for comment.
