After months of legal battles, the state Education Department has ordered Pinnacle Charter School to close.
Pinnacle had past academic problems and it was kept open only by court order. School leaders say they thought improvements in test scores showed the Ash Street school should be kept open.
But on Friday at 5 p.m., Albany called and said Pinnacle wouldn't be allowed to open for the new school year
Parents were told Sunday and were angry at the short notice they were given by the school.
"Pinnacle Charter has basically transformed my daughter into a good student. She has really excelled in her reading abilities and her math abilities," said Shelice Huff, parent of a fourth-grader at Pinnacle.
"I just think it's stupid that they're closing the best school, you know, and where are the minorities going to go? To a bad school? To a school that's just not achieving at a good level?"
There is a court hearing slated for Tuesday in an attempt to keep the Kindergarten through eighth grade school open.
Buffalo Public School board workers attended Sunday's parent meeting.
But several of the parents interviewed said they won't send their kids into regular Buffalo Public Schools at this last minute.
