City employee James Dempsey is finding himself the target of accusations of wrongdoing by City Hall. Dempsey works in Buffalo's Department of Parks and Recreation, and officials claim that he is mishandling funds connected with permits submitted by leagues for the use of baseball diamonds. Dempsey states that he is following protocols and that city officials are targeting him because of a previous incident. Two years ago, Dempsey was arrested while operating a city van and cocaine residue was found in the vehicle. Dempsey was suspended in that case, but the charges were eventually dropped.
Dempsey is now being suspended without pay, as officials claim that his handling of permits is costing the city money.
A hearing in the case is scheduled for next week.
