Officials at Fort Hood, Texas say a soldier from Lockport has died in an apparent drowning. Twenty-five year old Pfc. Christopher Heinz died Sunday at Stillhouse Hollow Lake, not far from Fort Hood.
Officials at Fort Hood say the incident is under investigation, but the death appears to be an accident.
According to the Fort Hood Public Affairs Office, Heinz entered active duty in 2012 and earned several awards and decorations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
He was assigned to Company C, 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.
