One of the Buffalo teenagers accused of setting a puppy on fire last fall will spend the next two years in prison. Adell Ziegler, 19, appeared in State Supreme Court Tuesday morning. Judge Russell Buscaglia ordered that Ziegler be banned from owning an animal or being around an animal for the next seven years.
Ziegler admitted to pouring lighter fluid on the then-three-month-old puppy, since named Phoenix, and setting him on fire last October. He pleaded guilty in April to felony aggravated cruelty to animals.
His nephew Diondre Brown, 17, also admitted to playing a role in the attack and was sentenced to six months in jail.
Phoenix made a remarkable recovery from his extensive burns after several procedures. He was recently adopted by his hospital caregiver.
