Jim Kelly declared cancer-free

Jim Kelly says he is cancer-free and won't need radiation or chemotherapy following surgery to remove squamous cell carcinoma from his upper jaw earlier this month. The Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterback made this announcement Monday morning at his annual football camp in Orchard Park.

Kelly, 53, had surgery June 7 at ECMC.  He says despite some soreness and weight loss, his recovery is on track. He will have regular check-ups every two months.

Kelly says he has never used tobacco products and the cause of the cancer is unknown.

The Bills legend thanked the people of Western New York for their support throughout the process, saying he has received "hundreds and hundreds" of letters.
