More than 200 buses brought thousands of protestors to Albany on Saturday in an effort to promote education reform. Teachers, administrators and union leaders joined forces in what was termed the One Voice United rally, targeting the increasing reliance of the state's education system on standardized testing. Educators claim that the testing limits the scope of teaching in the classroom and creates a detrimental level of stress for students an teachers alike, all of whom are subject to grading based upon the testing results. State Education Commissioner John King supports the standardized program called Common Core as a means of preparing all students for future success.
Teachers claim that the money spent on the range of tests is ill-spent with education budgets getting tighter over time.
