Flood watch, creeks & streams to rise

WBFO News photos by Eileen Buckley

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for Western New York until 6 a.m. Friday.

One to two inches of rain is expected with localized amounts of three inches.  Rain is steady across the region Thursday.

The watch is mainly for the creeks and streams. Rain is causing area creeks to rise.

David Zaff is a meteorologist at the Buffalo Weather Office.

"Some places in the Southern tier have reached an inch and we are expecting rain to continue right through the afternoon. off and on into the evening as well," said Zaff

The watch was issued because many areas over the weekend had one to two inches of rain.

"So that brought some of the creeks and streams up quit a bit, so they haven't had a chance to recover. The rain will allow those creeks and streams to rise significantly," said Zaff.

Motorists should also watch for ponding along area streets and roadways.  http://youtu.be/TZL-d0xtBy0

"Particularly after dark that becomes a bit of an issue. You will just have to be careful and take it slow.

Rain will continue into Friday with a slow end to it on Saturday and a warm up for Sunday.
