A number of trouble spots on area roads and bridges are scheduled to be fixed this construction season. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz has released a list of projects totaling nearly $36 million.The list includes the major reconstruction of East Robinson Road in Amherst and Stony Road in Lancaster and the re-paving of Como Park Boulevard and Losson Road in Cheektowaga.
In Clarence, safety improvements, including a flashing light, are planned for the intersection of Strickler and County roads, which has been the scene of several fatal accidents in recent years.
Poloncarz says county residents will be pleased to see the improvements to the county's infrastructure.
"This, of course, will not fix all the roads that need to be fixed, but it's a good start and it's a start that's needed to ensure that when people are driving down the roads of Erie County, they see safe roads, they know that they can get to where they need to be and they'll have good roads to drive on," Poloncarz says.
Poloncarz says the 60-project list reaches into all corners of the county and includes upgrades to bridges, dams, and culverts. He says the county's $12 million investment will leverage nearly $24 million in state and federal funds.
The county executive says more projects were originally planned, but budgetary issues forced some cutbacks.
