Around half of the judges across New York State have license plates on their cars showing they are judges.
TheState Commission on Judicial Conducthandled a recent and strange case of a judge and a judge's wife who received traffic tickets, which were eventually fixed by a police department in Rensselaer County.
The Commission removed the judge from office, partially because of the ticket fixing and partially because of some credibility questions.
After that, Commission Administrator and Counsel Robert Tembeckjian said the members took a look at the whole issue of license plates on cars identifying the owner as a judge, hoping judges might re-think the plates.
Not everyone agreed, with a commission member saying he saw no difference between telling a police officer the driver was a judge or having an identifying plate.
