Construction work is in full swing along Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo. The square across from City Hall is getting full make-over.
Utility crews were working in and around Niagara Square this week -- they were conducting preparation work for repaving of the Square.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said it's part of major infrastructure projects across the city.
"We're going to repave around Niagara Square so that it will be beautiful and smooth, but to do that, we need the utilities companies to do replacements and other work so that we don't come in and do paving and have it torn up," said Mayor Brown.
The entire Niagara Square makeover will cost about $600,000 makeover.
New sidewalks and curbs will be constructed d along with accessibility ramps, plus improvements will be made to the pedestrian crossings and new signage will be added.
"It's going to be really beautified. It's going to look very nice. It's going to be a really smooth surface for all the motorists," said Brown.
Lane and parking restrictions along Niagara Square and the streets that intersect the Square will be under through May.
The entire makeover should be complete by Memorial Day.
