The success of drug drop off programs in the City of Lockport has led to the permanent installation of a drop off box. The box is located in the Lockport Police Department and is available to accept unwanted prescription pills. Access to the box is available 24 hours a day, and authorities claim that the newly unveiled box has already collected better than 500 pounds of drugs. Every item collected is incinerated. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be recognized later next month.
The box in Lockport was paid for by the state's Department of Health.
