The demolitions of homes along Busti Avenue for the expansion of the Peace Bridge Plaza began on Saturday. A restraining order against the razings was lifted in federal court on Friday. Public Bridge Authority officials claim that the demolitions will make way for a green space buffer, while opponents believe that a Duty Free store will occupy the space.
Preservationists lament the loss of homes such as the Civil War era home of Samuel Wilkenson, who is identified as the man who built the City of Buffalo.
