Weather melts away Labatt Hockey Tournament

WBFO News photo by Ashley Hassett

This winter's fickle weather has forced the cancelation of the Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament. Teams began play on 5 makeshift rinks Saturday morning, but deteriorating conditions led to a determination that the ice was unplayable and potentially unsafe.

Dozens of players persevered through really tough ice conditions. Hundreds of fans came out to support and cheer on their favorite teams. We got a few good hours of hockey in before ice conditions became unplayable,” said Lisa Texido, associate brand manager for Labatt Blue. “Cheers to the players and hardworking crews who did their best to deal with Mother Nature’s latest curveball. The spirit of the guys who play in and prep for these games is exactly what this tournament is all about.”

All registered teams will be receiving a full refund.

This was the 6th Annual Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Tournament scheduled at the Erie Basin Marina.

Saturday & Sunday 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
