The National Weather Service is reporting that a record setting snowfall blanketed Buffalo and Western New York on Saturday. The airport station recorded 7.6 inches of snow, breaking the previous record of 7.1 inches that was set in 1990. Even heavier snows were measured in regions north and east of Buffalo where 9 to 10 inches of snow were unofficially recorded. Accumulations will be much lighter Sunday. However, a Lake Effect Snow Watch is being issued from Sunday evening through Monday night for southern Erie, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.
An additional 7 inches are possible during those hours for those portions of the Southern Tier.
