The Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station is investigating a suspicious package that arrived around 2 p.m. Tuesday. The package prompted base officials to initiate standard emergency protocols to secure personnel and property on the installation. The package in question was received on base via civilian mail carrier and had no return address. No other details concerning the package are available at this time.
Federal and state law enforcement has been called in to help determine the nature of the package.
Local emergency response crews are also present as a mutual aid agreement exists between the air base and the local community for mutual support either off base or on in the event of an emergency.
A spokesperson with the 914th Airlift Wing tells WBFO News the package was delivered to the army reserve without a return address, but at this point the base has "stood down" on the matter and normal operations have resumed.
