With winter weather in the forecast and holiday traffic expected to be heavy, the State Thruway Authority is taking steps to keep the highway clear for drivers.
Buffalo Division Director Tom Pericak says plows will be out in force today, tonight, and throughout the weekend.
"We do expect higher traffic volumes then usually we have on weekends because of the holiday coming up, but we will have adequate staff to deal with the current forecast," Pericak said.
Pericak advises drivers to use caution and to prepare for changing road and weather conditions along the thruway.
"When you do go out and encounter snow and plow trucks on the Thruway or any other roadway, the best advice is to stay behind them. It may slow you down a few seconds on your trip, but in the end, it'll be safer for everybody involved," Pericek said.
A winter storm is expected to dump snow across Western New York Friday afternoon, Friday night and Saturday. The heaviest snow is expected across the southern tier, but the entire region is expected to see wintry condition.
