The Dunkirk community gathered together on Saturday to celebrate the life and service of a hometown soldier.
Fredonia native Sgt. Jonathan "Nate" Gollnitz lost his life last month due to a suicide bomb attack while serving in Afghanistan. The 28-year-old Gollnitz was committed to serving his country, serving five years in the Navy and then doing tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as an Army soldier.
Hundreds of family, friends and fellow service members joined the ceremony.
Gollnitz leaves behind a 4-year-old son.
