Teachers, Buffalo schools, appear in court today

Buffalo schools and the Buffalo Teachers Federation  are possibly ready to work out differences about major teacher transfers out of three troubled schools.

Both sides were in court Thursday; they're are due in court Friday after  State Supreme Court Justice Gerald Whalen ordered Schools Superintendent Pamela Brown to be there.

BTF President Phil Rumore was in the court session.

"The district has decided that they want  to use a method under a grant that would require the forced movement of half of the teachers at three of our schools regardless of whether they're doing a god job or not," Rumore said.

After the court session, the district called Rumore to say it will agree to expedited arbitration to get the dispute settled before school opens in a month.

According to Rumore, it's not clear who will  decide which teachers are transferred out of School 33, Futures Academy and Drew.
