Winter Storm Live Updates

What you need to know:

  • The State of Emergency is still in effect for Erie County
  • Travel Advisory is in effect for all of Erie County
  • Heavy lake effect snow is set to impact areas east and northeast of Lakes Erie and Ontario through Thursday evening.

Snow removal operations continue in South Buffalo, Lovejoy, Kaisertown, and the Old First Ward. A Travel Advisory is in place as heavy equipment remains in those areas.

DPW officials expect citywide snow-clearing operations to continue through Saturday.

▪ All Emergency Warming Shelters will close at 6 p.m. tonight.
▪ Free parking in city parking ramps will end at noon on Saturday. If you have been parking in the parking ramps, please note that it will no longer be free as of noon on Saturday. Those ramps include the Adam Ramp, Mohawk Ramp, Turner Ramp, and Fernbach Ramp. More parking information can be found at the following link https://www.buffalony.gov/485/Parking-Enforcement-Division
▪ Sanitation and recycling pick-up is operating one day off this week. If your normal pick-up day is scheduled for Friday (Today), then your new day is Saturday. Sanitation and recycling will resume to a normal schedule next week.

Travel Bans:

    The City of Buffalo is lifting its travel bans effective at 8 am. All of Erie County is now under a Travel Advisory.
    Closings:

    • Buffalo City Hall closed on Thursday, Jan. 18
    • All Buffalo Library branches & downtown Central Library
    • Buffalo History Museum closed on Thursday, Jan. 18
    • Buffalo Public Schools closed on Friday, Jan. 19
    • University at Buffalo classes and activities scheduled across all three UB campuses are canceled
    • Williamsville School District will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 18
    • NYS Route 5 (Buffalo Skyway)
    • West Seneca Central School District (Thursday, Jan. 18)
    • Erie County Legislature's work and legislative sessions were postponed to Jan. 25, 2024, at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. respectively
    • Buffalo State University has canceled all classes and activities on Thursday, Jan. 18.
    • The 5/14 Memorial Public Engagement meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Jan. 23 at the Stanley Makowski Early Childhood Center on Jefferson Avenue.
    • International Institute of Buffalo is closed but will be working remotely on Thursday, Jan. 18
    • Lancaster School District closed Friday, Jan. 19
    • West Seneca Central School District closed Friday, Jan. 19
